Typical Burgundian Vineyard and Landscape
The Wines and Food of Burgundy
Burgundy's wines have been recognized for centuries as some of the finest--if not THE finest--in the world. A relatively small number of vineyards produces wines ranging from the humble but assertive white Aligote to legendary whites and reds such as Corton Charlemagne and Romanee Conti. Beaune, a half-hour's drive from the Cottage is the commercial center of Burgundy's wine trade and is thus the perfect place to taste some of the best wines in the cellars of the major wine houses.

Burgundy is also renowned for its superlative cuisine. There are also Michelin three-star restaurants not far awayat Chagny and Saulieu, but Burgundy is full of wonderful gastronomical experiences. In Arnay-le-Duc there is the Café du Nord, a restaurant cafe in the old style with excellent cuisine and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Beaune is full of good restaurants, including Le Jardin des Remparts on the old city walls.
The Canals of Burgundy
Burgundy is famous for its canals that cross some the most beautiful landscape in France. The canals are perfect places to hike, ride a bike or even fish (license required.) If you have some experience with boats, it is also possible to rent canal craft for short excursions.
